A Tribute to
Egbert T. (Eg) Walters

Born and educated in St. John’s, NL, Eg spent some 25 years in the financial services industry prior to coming to the Community Food Sharing Association (CFSA) in August 1992.

He is an active and dedicated member within his community including his local church and a member of the Masonic Fraternity and Shriners Club. He was a leader within the Raymarine Lively Lady Project where he served as co-skipper of a 36 ft. heritage sailboat that provided 60 disadvantaged youth with an around the world sailing experience.

An ocean adventurer, Eg and his three fellow crew members hold the world record for the fastest crossing of the North Atlantic from St. John’s to Cape Wrath, Scotland in a 30 ft. power boat.

Eg has received several notable awards for his dedication and commitment to his community and province. He received the Pinnacle Award of Excellence for an Organizational Leader, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Medals, and the Senate Sesquicentennial Medal awards presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community or to their fellow Canadians.

Eg has served in various capacities on the Board of Food Banks Canada, demonstrating his commitment and dedication to advocating for vulnerable populations throughout our province. In 1992 he was tasked with the goal of raising money for CFSA but far surpassed that goal. His mission was to eliminate hunger in our province. By building and cultivating contacts in the community and developing partnerships, Eg was able to find the support he needed to strengthen the CFSA’s infrastructure and to build a brand.

The CFSA continues Eg’s work of collecting and distributing food to the 60 food banks throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to help feed thousands of individuals that avail of food bank services on a regular monthly basis.
