January 18, 2013, St. John's, NL, The employees of Eastern Health today presented the Community Food Sharing Association with a cheque for $8,000. The funds were collected during Eastern Health's annual staff Christmas dinners, which were held in December 2012. Dr. Marilyn Thompson, Vice President responsible for Human Resources at Eastern Health, was joined by employee representatives at Mount Pearl Square to present the donation to Eg Walters, General Manager of the Community Food Sharing Association.
"This is the third year that our employees have celebrated the spirit of giving to the Community Food Sharing Association - a crucial community partner in helping families who are in need," said Dr. Thompson. "We take great pride in the quality work of our employees and volunteers, especially during the holiday season, and it is through their own goodwill that they give to those who may be less fortunate."
"We are so grateful for the generosity and support from Eastern Health's staff," said Eg Walters. "This donation will help hundreds of hungry families in our communities. Cash donations help supplement food donations, making it possible for us to pay for basic expenses and distribute food to the families in need throughout the province."
"As a valued community partner, I want to thank Mr. Walters and the Community Food Sharing Association for their continued efforts to help those who need support," added Dr. Thompson. "Together with our community partners, employees and our volunteers, we can bring about change and achieve our vision of healthy people, healthy communities." Eastern Health employees have donated a total of $23,300 to the Community Food Sharing Association over the last three years.
